Become an Anchor Mentor
Most young people leaving foster care have had more caseworkers than birthdays. An Anchor is the adult who stays.

What it asks of you
- Be 25 or older and live in the Charlotte region
- Commit to two years with one young adult
- Meet in person at least twice a month and check in weekly
- Join a monthly mentor circle (optional but most people love it)
- Pass a background check and complete six hours of training
How it works
- Come to an info session. 75 minutes, online, no commitment.
- Apply and interview. A short application, references, and a conversation with our mentoring team.
- Train. Two evening sessions on trauma, boundaries, and the realities of aging out.
- Get matched. We introduce you to a young adult whose interests and needs fit yours. They have the final say.
- Show up. Breakfast, job applications, car trouble, graduations. For two years, at least.
Questions
Do I need experience with foster care?
No. You need consistency, curiosity, and the ability to listen more than you talk.
What do mentors and young adults actually do together?
Whatever works: meals, errands, walks, studying, practicing for a road test, or just talking.
Can couples mentor together?
Yes. Couples can share one match if both complete training.
